Who can use our service?

The UQ Psychology Clinic is open to the public, students of The University of Queensland, partners, friends, and family.

Who can't we see?

Emergency or Crisis Situations

Given that we are a training centre and do not have the staff to manage psychiatric crisis situations, we are not able to provide emergency services to clients.

Legal Matters& Complex Problems

The Psychology Clinic is not in a position to be able to provide assistance for clients presenting with legal issues or complex problems requiring long-term therapy.

Students Doing Psychology

Students currently enrolled in Psychology courses at The University of Queensland should also not be seen at the Psychology Clinic due to a potential conflict of interest and/or dual-role relationship with Intern Psychologists who also have a teaching/tutorial responsibility.

Study Problems

We also recommend that those University students with study problems seek assistance from Student Support Services rather than from the Psychology Clinic. Student Support Services is the official University helping agency for University students when the presenting complaint is concerned almost exclusively with difficulties in course work and studying.

Referrals

  1. To make referrals to the Clinic contact the Clinic Secretary on 3365 6451 or complete the form provided and forward it to the Centre on the address at the bottom of the form.
  2. Once referred, clients are placed on a waiting list.
  3. Clients on the waiting list are then contacted by phone by either the Clinic Manager or another psychologist, who obtains further information and decides whether the Clinic is the most suitable agency.
  4. If the Clinic is suitable, the client remains on the waiting list and is assigned to a psychologist as one becomes available. Arrangements may be offered to clients requiring urgent or more demanding assistance.
